I have always loved to read. I love working in the adult services department in the library because I can rationalize that all the time I spend reading is actually relevant to my work! In college, I majored in English and Philosophy so I did a lot of reading!
I read a wide range of fiction and would like to start reading more nonfiction. I like everything from classics (Faulkner and Austen are my favorites) and literary fiction (love Jonathan Franzen) to mystery (I love M.C. Beaton and Sue Grafton) to Stephen King. I am also a huge fan of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I read the whole series in about 3 months and am anxiously awaiting the next book! At the library where I work we had a Skype program with Diana Gabaldon that was great.
I write a review about every six weeks for my library website and enjoy reading and reviewing a book I can share with others. I have even made a reading nook in my house!
You noted some of my favorite authors, so I'm excited to read more about your reviews and annotations. I love the idea of a reading nook. One of these days when I have time, perhaps I can carve out a spot at home just for that - not too many years and we'll be empty nesters. You mention Diana Gabaldon - her first book was a selection for my reading club a couple of decades ago, then again for a book club a few years ago and it's amazing how it took, what 25 years or so, from that first book to become so popular. I read it because I have always enjoyed historical fiction. I think that media has an influence on what is trendy and this is a good example of it, because it certainly wasn't this big back when I first read it. I remember when the "Left Behind" series was so hot, as well. It, too, was very well marketed with multiple media releases. How neat that you write reviews for your patrons... do you do that on your library's website, social media, Goodreads?
ReplyDeleteI started reading the Diana Gabaldon books about a year before the show came out based on recommendations from several coworkers. I do think series go in and out of fashion based on media but I guess so does everything, so why not books? Staff members at my library (Hamilton East Public Library ) write book reviews and they are posted on our website. Thanks for your comment!

ReplyDeleteHow exciting to Skype with Diana Gabaldon! I read the first outlander boom years ago, and didn't realize there were more. When I discovered that, I - like you-devoured them quickly. I always anticipate the next one with baited breath. She's a wonderful story weaver. Like Mindy, I look forward to reading more from you. 😊
